This unique approach aimed at obfuscating the ship's silhouette by employing contrasting colors and patterns rather than concealing it outright. The strategic application of Wilkinson's Dazzle made it arduous for German U-Boat crews, particularly the First Watch Officer, to accurately assess the ship's distance and speed through their periscope. Consequently, this innovative technique significantly impeded the effective arming of torpedoes by the adversaries.
